Privacy Policy
Effective October 2026
This explains what information ProjectMender collects, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We try to collect only what the site needs to work.
What we collect
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address, and a password if you choose one | To sign you in and send account emails |
| Name, ZIP code, bio, skills and profile photo | Shown on your public profile so people can decide whether to work with you |
| Posts, including photos, prices and descriptions | Shown publicly on the site |
| Messages between you and other users | To run the chat. Visible to the two people in the conversation and, if a report is made, to us |
| Quotes, payments, releases, refunds and ratings | To run held payments and show job history |
| Reports and blocks you submit | To keep the site safe |
| Device and log data (IP address, browser, pages visited) | To keep the site secure and fix problems |
What we don't collect
- Card numbers. Card details go straight to Stripe, our payment processor. ProjectMender never sees or stores them.
- Bank details. Workers add their bank account through Stripe. We store only whether payouts are enabled.
- Background check results in detail. If you choose the Verified badge, the check is run by Checkr. We store only the outcome (clear or not), not the report.
- Precise location. We use your ZIP code, not GPS. ZIP codes are matched to a town and an approximate map point using public GeoNames data.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that run ProjectMender, and only what each one needs:
- Supabase hosts the database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Stripe handles card payments and worker payouts, and runs its own identity checks on workers.
- Checkr runs background checks, only when you ask for one.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
We don't sell your information and we don't share it with advertisers. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users.
What other users can see
Your profile, posts, ratings and reviews are public. Your email address, payout details and the contents of your conversations are not. The other person in a conversation can see what you send them.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. Records of payments, releases and refunds are kept for as long as the law requires us to keep financial records, even after an account is closed. Removed posts are hidden from the site but kept for a period in case of a dispute.
Your choices
- You can edit your name, ZIP code, bio, skills and photo at any time in Settings.
- You can remove your own posts.
- You can block other users, and report posts or people.
- You can close your account yourself, at the bottom of Settings. That removes your profile, photos and listings and erases your email address. Conversations you were part of stay readable for the other person, shown as "Former member", and payment records are kept as described above. You'll need to finish or cancel any open quote or job first.
Cookies
ProjectMender uses a cookie to keep you signed in and a browser setting to remember your light-or-dark theme choice. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Children
ProjectMender is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll say so on the site before the change takes effect.
