About ProjectMender

Starting in Richmond, Kentucky.

ProjectMender is a local marketplace for the jobs that are too small for a contractor and too big to keep putting off: a fence panel that blew down, a move across town, a yard that got away from you, a deep clean before the landlord walks through. It works like a marketplace app, except instead of buying and selling, people hire and get hired.

How it works

  1. Post. If you need something done, post the job with a rough budget. If you do this kind of work, list what you offer and your rate. Posting is free, on both sides.
  2. Talk. Message each other on ProjectMender to agree on the details, the timing and the price.
  3. Final quote. When you both agree, either side sends a final quote with the price and what's included. The hirer accepts and pays it.
  4. Held, then released. ProjectMender holds the payment. When the job is done, the hirer releases it and the worker is paid. If the job is cancelled, the hirer gets the full amount back. If nobody does anything for 7 days after the worker marks the job done, it releases automatically.
  5. Rate each other. Both sides leave a rating, so good workers and good hirers stand out.

What it costs

Hirers pay exactly the agreed price. Nothing is added on top. When the money is released, the worker's payout has two things taken out: the card processing cost (2.9% plus $0.30) and a 7% ProjectMender fee. On a $100 job, the hirer pays $100.00 and the worker receives $89.80. The exact numbers are shown on every quote before anyone commits.

What ProjectMender is not

ProjectMender is not an employer, a contractor, or an insurer. It does not check licenses or insurance and does not inspect the work. The Verified badge means one thing: that person paid for a background check and it came back clear. It is not a license, a skills test, or a guarantee. Read what to check before you hire and the terms of service.

Licensed trades

Electrical and plumbing work need a licensed professional in nearly every state, and bad work in either can hurt someone. ProjectMender doesn't offer those categories.
